Compare driving instructor apps for independent UK ADIs

ADI Admin is built for independent UK driving instructors who want simple, practical tools for running their driving school, without paying for extras they may never use. Keep your pupils, lessons, diary, progress and finances in one place. Start free with no card required or automatic subscription, or choose Pro for £4.99/month.

See how ADI Admin compares with Total Drive, MyDriveTime and GoRoadie Pro on price and features. Each app offers something different, and some instructors will benefit from the additional tools available elsewhere. It comes down to what you actually need for your business.

Which driving instructor app is right for you?

ADI Admin

For independent UK driving instructors who want to keep their admin simple and organised, without paying for extras they don't need.

Strengths

Everything you need for day-to-day admin, including pupils, lessons, diary, progress, payment tracking, prepaid balances, expenses and driving tests. All in one browser-based app, without loads of extras you may never use. Start with the Free plan, with no card required or automatic subscription, and upgrade to £4.99/month Pro when you need more room.

Limitations and things to consider

No pupil portal, automated pupil reminders, online self-booking or pupil card payment processing. No external calendar or accounting integration. Choose Pro when you need more than five saved pupils or the Free receipt allowance.

Total Drive

For instructors who want a broader suite of pupil communication, diary and teaching tools.

Strengths

Pupil and parent apps, reminders, reflective logs, calendar sync and optional in-app payments. Basic includes 2D road scenarios; higher plans add online booking or 3D teaching aids.

Limitations and things to consider

Plan choice matters: online booking is in Ultimate and Elite, while the additional 3D teaching aids are in Pro and Elite. Accounting submission uses a connected provider or partner - transaction syncing is manually initiated.

MyDriveTime

For instructors who value detailed teaching records and help getting set up.

Strengths

Student progress, reflective logs, test outcomes and faults, prepaid lessons, a student app and financial reports. The provider also advertises migration assistance and a one-to-one start-up session.

Limitations and things to consider

The individual subscription costs more than ADI Admin Pro. CSV payment export is included, but external accounting software or professional submission services can add costs. Select the accounting option that fits your needs.

GoRoadie Pro

For instructors who want to manage enquiries, waiting pupils and available lesson slots.

Strengths

Live waiting list, enquiry manager, learner app, reminders, reflective logs and instructor-offered lesson slots. Its September 2026 update confirms a QuickBooks integration on the web dashboard.

Limitations and things to consider

Its published FAQ describes instructor-offered slots rather than pupils freely booking into your diary. Online payment charges apply, so check current payment terms as well as the subscription price.

What ADI Admin includes

Both plans give you the same everyday features: a daily diary, lesson records, weekly repeats, pupil records and progress, block-booking balances, income and payment status, expenses and driving-test records. You can use ADI Admin on your phone, tablet or computer, and add it to your home screen from your browser.

Free: Save up to five pupils, including inactive pupils. You can upload three receipts. This allowance doesn't reset every month, although removing a receipt can make room for another.

Pro: Removes the pupil and receipt quantity limits. Both plans support JPG, PNG and PDF uploads up to 5 MiB, with a maximum of 10 pages per PDF.

Payment records: Keep track of paid, unpaid and prepaid lessons. You still collect pupil payments outside ADI Admin.

Pupil contact: Call, text or email from a pupil record and share progress summaries. Automated reminders and pupil logins aren't included.

It's not just about the price

ADI Admin Pro costs less per month than the other paid options shown here. But those apps also offer additional features that could be worth paying for if you need them.

Think about which features you'll actually use. Do you need to take payments through the app? Will you use calendar connections or accounting software? And are there extra charges for any of those services? Keeping records of your income and expenses is also different from submitting tax information to HMRC.

Total Drive offers tax submission through connected providers. MyDriveTime includes CSV payment export and offers accounting options that may cost extra. ADI Admin doesn't provide accounting integrations or tax submission.

What do you actually need from an app?

Do you want pupils to log in, receive automatic reminders or accept offered lesson slots?

Do you need to take payments through the app, or just keep track of payments you've already received?

Would you use calendar connections, teaching resources or accounting integrations?

Are there limits on how many pupils, receipts or files you can save?

Can you bring your existing records across, and how would you get your data out if you decided to leave?
